TCG House: card scanner app for collectors and dealers
An app that recognises a trading card through the camera and instantly shows its value and prices on eBay and Cardmarket, for collectors and dealers alike.
What was the brief?
Collectors often look up card values on several sites and track their collection in a spreadsheet. TCG House wanted one app: scan a card, see the price and track the collection, with extra tools for those who trade.
How did I approach it?
The scanner recognises cards on the device itself, using a local index of more than 19,000 cards with text recognition as a fallback. Prices come live from eBay and Cardmarket.
- Scan with the camera or from the photo library, also offline
- Price comparison with 7- and 30-day trends and a breakdown by condition
- A collection with condition, language and grading, plus a wishlist with price alerts
- Sealed products, trades and public collector profiles
- Ultra for dealers: buying mode, trade inventory, fair day and Price Watch
- Versions for iPhone, iPad and Android using the same data sources
What is the result?
The app is on the App Store and Google Play in nine languages. There is a free version, plus Pro and Ultra for collectors and dealers who want more.
